I was ask by my client to install a split type airconditioner wherein the piping has a distance of 7meters horizontal then 7 meters vertical to reach the roof deck. oil trap is recommended for the vertical , but how about the horizontal?do you think there will be problems in the future especially with comp.? the capacity is 1TR. ty po...

Hi tengteng,

The horizontal piping in particular the suction line, of a split unit, requires a slope or slant towards the condensing unit. A simple rule to follow is 1 inch slope per 1 meter. Thats 7 inches slope for a 7 meter lenght of horizontal piping. That is to ensure gravity flow of oil most especially in the suction line wherein oil and refrigerant does not mix properly. Furthermore, Oil-trap must be at the bottom of the suction riser.

First where is the outdoor location, outdoor above indoor or outdoor below indoor. If outdoor above indoor use oil trap(suction on;y) to easy return of oil into the compressor. Install oil trap near the suction riser, though the vertical lift is a little bit long because for 1tr the max. vertical lift is 5mtrs. only. Much better if you can make it shorter. (please see attached picture)
If outdoor below indoor and the unit is almost back to back, install inverted loop near the indoor (suction only) but it is far from the outdoor no need of inverted loop just pitch the pipe toward the outdoor unit to easy return of oil into the compressor by gravity during cycle.

maybe oil trap is not needed for that 1TR split type A/C because mayron na po yang oil trap ang unit tignan nyo po ung loob ng outdoor kasamana po un sa design ng manufacturer.tnx
